Blackmagic Design Announces New Blackmagic UpDownCross 100G
Posted on Tuesday, April 14, 2026
The Blackmagic UpDownCross 100G will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2026 booth #N2502.
The Blackmagic UpDownCross 100G is a powerful 8-channel standards converter with native SMPTE-2110 connections via 100G Ethernet. It converts up to 8 separate channels of SD, HD and Ultra HD video to any other standard simultaneously. The professional 1RU design features front-to-back cooling that’s very quiet. It also includes redundant 100G Ethernet for full SMPTE 2022-7 compliance, dual redundant AC power supplies and a separate NMOS control port for connecting to control networks.
Blackmagic 2110 IP products conform to the SMPTE-2110 standard, which specifies the transport, synchronization and description of 10-bit video, audio and ancillary data over managed IP broadcast networks. They can re-sync SDI inputs to a common PTP clock, or external gear can lock to the reference output generated from the PTP clock.
All Blackmagic SMPTE-2110 products with 100G Ethernet, plus some 10G Ethernet models have 2 separate Ethernet ports to support redundancy. SMPTE-2110 redundancy sends two identical copies of their video and audio across two separate network connections. This works even better when the redundant Ethernet ports are connected to separate Ethernet switches. This redundancy is called SMPTE 2022-7 Seamless Protection Switching. It compares incoming RTP packets on both connections by sequence number, then reconstructs a perfect video frame from whichever packet of pixels arrives first. The switchover is real-time and totally seamless, so customers never get dropped frames or audio glitches.
"In television, the video standards are often wrong, and we need to shield our system from crazy video standards," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. "The new UpDownCross 100G handles 8 channels in a single rack unit, and because one 100G port does 8 inputs and 8 outputs, you only need one connection for 8 channels. We can use this UpDownCross to protect any equipment and I think this will be very useful!"
