Appear, a global leader in live production technology, proudly announces it has been recognised alongside NBCUniversal with the prestigious NAB Show Delivery Project of the Year Award for their transformative satellite downlink infrastructure project. The award celebrates NBCUniversal’s successful overhaul of its satellite reception operations, enabled by Appear’s advanced X Platform technology and its integration with Skyline Communications’ Dataminer.

This high-profile award win underscores Appear’s pivotal role in modernising one of the most respected media brands in the world.

In addition to the Project of the Year accolade, Appear also collected three major product innovation awards:
- NAB Show Product of the Year Award (Hardware Infrastructure) for the Appear X5
- TV Tech Best of Show Award 2025 for the Appear X5
- TVBEurope Best of Show Award 2025 for the VX Media Gateway

These achievements affirm Appear’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions across hardware, software, and cloud-based delivery infrastructure.

Powering NBCUniversal’s Transition to IP and Cloud

The award-winning project saw NBCUniversal transition from fragmented, hardware-heavy operations to a centralised, scalable, cloud-compatible satellite downlink ecosystem. By deploying Appear’s X Platform, NBCU achieved a 200% density improvement at edge sites, streamlined its infrastructure footprint, and laid the foundation for IP-based and cloud-native workflows. The system also features high-density demodulation, SRT-secured video delivery over WAN, and seamless integration with both legacy SDI and ST-2110 environments.

"This project is a standout example of how we partner with industry leaders to deliver transformative results," said Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen, CEO of Appear. "NBCUniversal’s trust in Appear’s technology to modernise its downlink infrastructure is a major milestone for us—not only in terms of innovation, but also in the calibre of customer we’re proud to support.”

Enabling the Future of Live Production

Appear’s other NAB Show wins highlight the continued evolution of its award-winning product portfolio. The VX Media Gateway, unveiled at NAB 2025, earned accolades for its software-defined flexibility in bridging legacy broadcast systems with cloud-native workflows.

Meanwhile, the X5, the newest addition to the award-winning X Platform family, won two awards for delivering powerful media processing in a compact, energy-efficient chassis. The X5 is designed for smaller-scale live productions—ideal for remote production, contribution workflows, and IP broadcast environments.

“These awards reflect the momentum we’re building as a trusted technology partner to the world’s top broadcasters,” said Jørgensen. “Appear’s mission is to simplify and accelerate the broadcast industry's shift to IP and cloud through solutions that are powerful, adaptable, and ready for the future.”
