Director, Product Marketing, B2 Media and Entertainment at Backblaze Cloud Storage & Backup, Skip Levens, talks Backblaze cloud storage at NAB 2019.
Q What new products/services has your company introduced since last year's’ NAB?
A Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage is constantly evolving - since NAB last year even more creative customers have made Backblaze an important part of their creative workflows. Backblaze B2 has truly become the ‘cloud storage of choice’ for creatives with its unbeatable combination of 11 9’s durability, instant availability of your data and content, and low price of only $5/TB/month with no hidden charges or fine print on storing or using all of your content on B2.
Q Finish the sentence: 2019 will be the production industry’s year of _____
A …accelerating content to cloud. We see production storage becoming more efficient and more agile by letting instantly available, highly protected cloud storage take on more and more roles in creative production workflows, leaving creatives to only manage two kinds of storage, fast, shared production storage for content creation, and cloud storage for the rest. By adopting this strategy creative teams get incredible flexibility and options while reducing the need to pay for, and manager, on-site storage sprawl. The result is teams can focus on their best creative work and deliver their work faster with less stress.
Q What motivating factor drives you to continue innovating year after year?
A We work very hard behind the scenes, constantly updating the infrastructure and technology for our customers but our motivation is the incredible work that our customers do on our platform - from independent and new media filmmakers, an explosion of new and exciting content channels, and storytelling of every kind, knowing that we pay a part in that and help make it all possible is what is so exciting to us.
Q How would you describe the energy around this years’ NAB show?
A This show is rightly focusing on the storyteller - as the show has evolved from its strong broadcast roots to serve storytellers of every kind on every new kind of platform and medium - the possibilities are almost limitless.
Q How do you expect NAB 2019 to differ from NAB 2018?
A There are several trends that are continuing to gather momentum - more and more prevalent very high resolution production and content (above 4K), HDR workflows, internet-routed video, cloud-backed content libraries for extremely agile content production and more are all continuing to drive this wave of new content and new content possibilities.
Q Where can we find you on the show floor?
A Backblaze can be found in South Hall lower level in SL12416 - and we’ll have a really fun booth for customers to explore what’s possible with Backblaze cloud storage!
