SGO Talks about Upcoming NAB Show

SGO has been working hard on bringing an integrated workflow strategy to the market which addresses specific parts of the post-production process.

Q What new products/services has your company introduced since last year's’ NAB?

A SGO has been working hard on bringing an integrated workflow strategy to the market which addresses specific parts of the post-production process. We are referring to the workflow concept as Multi-Dimensional and will be rolling out solution based applications across the next few months.

The first phase of solutions includes Mistika VR and Mistika Insight, both of which we will be launching at NAB in just over a weeks’ time. These solutions all run off Mistika Technology and are essentially parts of Mistika Ultima – our hero suite offering, so industry professionals and post-production facilities can expect unparalleled integration and flexibility.

Mistika VR, is an affordable VR focused solution that offers real-time stitching using our optical flow technology.

SGO’s ‘Hero Suite’ previously referred to as Mistika has been renamed to become Mistika Ultima, which still remains one of the most advanced DI post-production solutions in the industry. All the developments that are made to Mistika Technology will be invested into Mistika Ultima so existing clients and professionals wanting a turnkey solution will benefit from the evolution of our specific solution-based applications.

Also, we’ve re-launched Insight, SGO’s educational programme that provides ‘Ultima’ as a learning tool for students. We’ve made the software more accessible and available on Mac, Windows and Linux.

Q Of all the other companies in attendance, which booths are you most excited to visit?

A Canon are always a must see for NAB so we are excited to see what advancements they have made in the name of HDR. We will also be partnering with Quantum on their booth, so I’m excited to see what they are up to. Other than that, there is still a huge buzz around VR and what’s next so I’ll definitely be visiting the VR Pavilion to see what is going on.

Q Finish this sentence: 2017 will be the production industry’s year of __________

A Virtual reality (VR).

Q What motivating factor drives you to continue innovating year after year?

A The team at SGO are passionate about making sure we develop technology that enables creativity and solutions that make a real difference to our clients’ businesses and outputs. We also understand the post-production industry is a far different place now than it used to be a few years ago. Nowadays, budgets are tight, approvals are lengthy and complex, and the need for a sophisticated yet flexible toolset is more evident than ever.

As a company, we’re continuously evolving and adapting to industry needs, for example, we’ve differentiated ourselves from our competitors by offering an ‘integrated’ toolset as the bread and butter of the business. Our customers motivate us. By this, I mean by working closely with them we understand the challenges they face and we’re in a fortunate enough position to be able to develop specific solutions that address their needs.

Q How would you describe the energy coming into this years’ NAB show?

A I think a lot of the energy is being focused around developments in VR and generating tools that are able to create a fully immersive experience. People want to understand how it has progressed since last year and what new products and solutions are out there for the consumer.

Q One year from now, what new technologies do you think we’ll be discussing?

A I think we’ll be discussing the technologies that will significantly make traditional and current workflow practices more cost effective, efficient and manageable. SGO is leading the way, but there is a real need for the industry to develop solutions that are agile enough to work to individual needs to provide a seamless yet integrated workflow. We’ve also got the 2020 Olympics coming up in Tokyo so it will be interesting to see the role 8K plays on influencing manufactures and the industry in general.

Q How do you expect NAB 2017 to differ from NAB 2016?

A In general I think NAB themselves have invested a lot into sub-halls and pavilions, encouraging innovators and smaller companies to get on board with the show so that will be interesting. For us, NAB 2017 will be completely different to NAB 2016, in that we listened last year and kept a relatively low profile. This year we will of course listen, however we’re launching a new workflow concept and new product solutions so it’s going to be very interesting for us.

Q Where can we find you on the show floor?

A South Hall Lower - Booth: SL4227

Q Have you heard about the featured Attractions and Pavilions? Are you planning on stopping by any of their exhibits?

A As mentioned, the Virtual & Augmented Reality Pavilion will be of great interest as this trend is truly impacted our customers, so it will be great to see what the latest tech launches will be and see what content producers are creating.
