Jon Schorah, Founder and Creative Director of NUGEN Audio about NAB 2017 and the debut of Halo Downmix.
Q What new products/services has your company introduced since last year's’ NAB?
A NUGEN Audio has introduced two new advanced software solutions for broadcast and post. The AMB Audio Management Batch processor was introduced last September, accelerating audio batch processing workflows significantly and reducing delivery times for tasks such as loudness correction, dynamics adaptation and upmixing. Queue and thread expansions were introduced to give even more scalability.
Q Of all the other companies in attendance, who’s booth are you most excited to visit?
A We’ve been working closely with Dolby Technologies. They’re always innovating in audio production and delivery. Their booth is always worth spending time in.
Q Finish the sentence: 2017 will be the production industry’s year of _______
A Application. We’ve seen huge innovation over the last year, and now it’s time to see some of this radical new technology applied to actual consumer products.
Q What motivating factor drives you to continue innovating year after year?
A Delivering products that solve real-life problems for the industry - while being a pleasure to use - is a really satisfying challenge that commands innovation on all levels: processing, user-interface, support and education.
Q How would you describe the energy at this years’ NAB show?
A Anticipation levels are high. There is a lot of buzz, certainly in the audio sector as we explore opportunities for object-based surround and immersive audio and grapple with actually implementing these innovations throughout the industry.
Q One year from now, what new technologies do you think we’ll be discussing?
A A year is a long time! I’d like to be surprised by new ideas that I can't predict, I enjoy the unforeseen.
Q How do you expect NAB 2017 to differ from NAB 2016?
A I’m hoping there’ll be a transition from showing inspirational ideas to implementing them - turning technology into real products that benefit consumers.
